<p>BANGKOK (January 3, 2013)&nbsp; -- The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) today called on Thai authorities to give United Nations refugee agencies unhindered access to Rohingya boat migrants. Thai authorities should suspend plans to deport at least 73 Rohingya migrants back to Myanmar, the regional human rights caucus said.<br /></p>

<p>BANGKOK – The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) today welcomed U.S. President Barack Obama’s plans to visit Rangoon next week but urged the President to use his visit to push for key demands and raise human rights concerns with the government there.</p>

<p>BANGKOK -- The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) today called on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to ensure it works swiftly to implement a legally binding ASEAN Framework Instrument on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers.</p>

<p>PHNOM PENH &mdash; The ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC), while noting allegations of irregularities and widespread electoral violations, today welcomed the results of the Myanmar by-elections held on 1 April 2012 but called on ASEAN to raise the issue of ongoing violence and conflict in Myanmar&rsquo;s ethnic areas during the ASEAN Summit from April 3 &ndash; 4 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.</p>

<p>Leading ASEAN MPs and members of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) will be in Thailand on a three-day fact-finding mission from February 23-25 to raise awareness on issues surrounding migrant labour in the region, particularly of Burmese migrants in Thailand.</p>

<p>JAKARTA - The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus today welcomed Cambodia?s chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), but made clear it wanted to see increased focus and improvement in the protection of human rights and the strengthening of democratic institutions in Myanmar and across the region.</p>

<p>During the peaceful demonstrations in 2007 which marked Myanmar's 'Saffron Revolution', thousands of monks participated in democratic rallies against the military rule across Myanmar. Despites a government crackdown on internet and mobile links to the outside world, images were shown worldwide of mass arrests and indiscriminate government-violence upon peaceful civilian protesters. </p>

<p>The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) welcomes the efforts of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, Tom&aacute;s Ojea Quintana, to ensure that justice and accountability measures are introduced to address human rights violations and build peace in Myanmar. We call on the European Union and ASEAN to support Mr. Quintana&rsquo;s call.</p>
