Years and years ago, when I was still trying to figure out who really ruled the world (I now know – it’s misogynistic, racist, bigoted braggarts with strange hair and an even stranger attitude to the truth), an unusual thing happened in Thailand.  The civilian government of the day suddenly found a sliver of spine and tried to tell the military that their lethal-toys-for-the-feral-boys budget might not be as excessive as they wished.  Predictable outrage from personages with starch-pressed uniforms and ditto minds.

The Thai Foreign Minister has been shamed by the US Ambassador publicly confirming that a statement expressing Washington’s “concerns” on Thailand’s human rights situation is real after the Minister recently claimed that the statement was not issued by the US Department of State.    On Tuesday, 10 May 2016, AFP reported that a spokesperson of the US Department of the State “condemned” Thailand for the arrest on 6 May of an activist's mother.

On 10 August 2015, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong paid an official visit to Bangkok to boost bilateral ties. Among many issues, ironically, the two countries pledged to promote human rights and to enhance economic cooperation. They also discussed the issue of “nuclear” which might have made some Western nations disturbingly uncomfortable.

Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has sent a delegation to the North Korea and presented a gift to North Korea Leader Kim Jong Un to celebrate 40 years of bilateral ties.    According to the Korean Central News Agency of DPRK, the delegates, led by Deputy Minister Don Pramudwinai, arrived Pyongyang Tuesday and was welcomed with a reception, hosted by Democratic People's Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong and Vice-Minister Ri Kil So at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
