On Sunday (7 July), Doctors of Ramathibodi Hospital have allowed Sirawith ‘Ja New’ Serithiwat to go home, but he will refuse witness protection as the police will not provide it unless he halts his political activism.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has declared a 30-day suspension of broadcasting of a TV station run by red-shirt leaders because it allegedly threatened national security and ‘good morals’.   On 9 August 2017, the Secretary-General of the NBTC, Takorn Tantasith, announced the Commission’s decision to revoke Peace TV’s broadcasting licence for 30 days as punishment for publishing seditious content and violating an agreement with the NBCT.

Several prominent red shirt leaders have been given prison terms for leading a demonstration against the President of Thailand’s Privy Council.   On 9 January 2016, the Criminal Court read the Appeal Court’s verdict on ten red shirt activists accused of unlawful assembly for leading a demonstration against General Prem Tinsulanonda, the President of the Privy Council.   The defendants were accused of leading a crowd of several thousand to Prem’s residence on 22 July 2007 to demand his resignation.

Key red-shirt leaders have submitted a petition to the UN after the junta shut down their referendum monitoring centres in various provinces across the country, adding that the red shirts will invite EU delegates to participate in observing the referendum.

Update: Voice TV reported on Monday at 9:46 am that many police and military officers were deployed at Mahachai Muang Mai Market in Samut Sakhon Province where Jatuporn, Nattawut, and other UDD members planned to meet before travelling to Rajabhakdi Park. The officers have reportedly taken both Jatuporn and Nattawut into a military van.

Khaosod English: Two red-shirt leaders have been released following "attitude adjustment" sessions with the military. Nattawut Saikua, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperative, and Chertchai Tantisirin, former Pheu Thai MP in Khon Kaen province, were summoned by the military after they publicly criticized the junta and recent political developments in Thailand. Both Nattawut and Chertchai are also core members of the Redshirt umbrella organization, the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).
