The Eastern Relation of Labour Group demands justice for General Motors Thailand Workers Union

Recently “The Walk for Justice” was organised to support the members of The General Motors Thailand Workers Union who are harassed by the employer. They are moved to work in Ayudhya Province. Their salaries are reduced to only 9,600 baht. All benefits that they were previously given are cut. This is the unfair treatment of the employees.
The Eastern Relation of Labour Group, a coalition of over 50 worker unions with over 25,000 members in the eastern region and the neighbouring areas, regards the case of the members of The General Motors Thailand Workers Union as the violation of workers’ rights. The employer intends to prevent the assembly of the workers as a workers union to avoid the negotiation between the employer and the employees for the changes of working conditions. Such intention aims to cut the employer’s cost of production and to shift the cost which is the employer’s responsibility to be the workers’ burden. This action is the violation of the workers’ rights according to the Labor Relation Act B.E. 2518, of the International Labour Organization Conventions and the employer’s code of conducts (the GM Code of Conducts)
Hence, The Eastern Relation of Labour Group expresses our solidarity and support to the struggle of The General Motors Thailand Workers Union. We will take all actions to help the demand for justice of the members of The General Motors Thailand Workers Union. We also call for the solidarity actions of other workers unions to come out and to demand justice for the members of The General Motors Thailand Workers Union.
Workers of the world, unite!

However, with only 2 full-time reporters and increasing annual operating costs, keeping our work going is a challenge.
