Prachatai spoke to a number of participants in the demonstration, including a group of student observers from Chulalongkorn University, a family with a young child, a man campaigning for a more open beer production law, Spokedark TV’s Winyu Wongsurawat, and art critic Thanom Chapakdee, about their goals in joining the protest at the Democracy Monument on 16 August.

Last night’s student protest is now dubbed the largest demonstration in Thailand since the 2014 military coup, after more than 20,000 people joined to press their three demands for the government.

The Women for Freedom and Democracy group has set up a station at today's protest at the Democracy Monument for people to sign their petition calling for the decriminalization of abortion.
