The judicial process in Thailand is especially tricky to figure out. Just this week the international media showed pictures of former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva climbing the many steps of the Criminal Court to be formally charged with murder.  Commentators noted that even if prosecution of a PM for a crime of this severity is a first for Thailand, it is very much a selectively political case and few believe there is any serious chance of his future appearances being in leg irons.

Women seem to have become a casualty of the ongoing political strife that has been plaguing the Kingdom since the 2006 military coup, if not earlier. This became very clear when a number of female Pheu Thai MPs decided to hand sarongs over to opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva in protest against his alleged reference to Thailand's first female prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra as a "stupid bitch".

Over the past two years as Prime Minister, I have been trying to keep you informed to elicit your participation and help you to understand my mission. Nonetheless, I have tried to avoid touching on political events which are highly sensitive as I do not want to exacerbate the current strife. But as misinformation has been spread by some media, I feel the urge to write this record for the benefit of all of you who are very soon going to decide the fate of this country.

With a number of chances to ask a question directly to PM Abhisit and in numerous interviews I have had with him, one of the things I have been most curious to know is if he would utter any apology after the crackdown in May last year.

Is there anyone who takes care of everything everywhere, come rain or come shine?  Is there anyone who has good ideas and great dreams? I want that person to protect and care for us and, when we’re weak, support us to be strong.  If we have that person always ready to stand close … then this is the one my heart is waiting for.

Sondhi Limthongkul has called for the country to be shut off so that an ‘appointed’ government can clean out dirty things.  A retired air chief marshal has accused some in the government of colluding to assassinate Sondhi in 2009, and covering it up.

The Prime Minister was concerned about the Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation’s ban on rally merchandise.  It should be made clear that prosecution will proceed in the case of any materials which offend the monarchy, but the CRES must not get involved in cases of offences against individuals, Abhisit Vejjajiva told a seminar.

Mr. Salil Shetty, Secretary General of AI paid a call on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on the occasion of his visit to Thailand, at Thai Koo Fah Building, the Government House. The Secretary General of Amnesty International asked the Prime Minister on issues interested by the public and media, such as the political situation, situation in the southern border provinces, situation of displaced persons fleeing from fightings in Myanmar, and lèse majesté law.
