<p>387 journalists worldwide are currently detained in connection their work, while 54 are held hostage and 4 are missing, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF)&rsquo;s <a href="https://rsf.org/en/news/rsfs-2020-round-35-rise-number-women-journalists-held-arbitrarily?fbclid=IwAR3DA3pSiOX-qwElarOdMww3170CN_eUxkucb-8hmCCYyW8cPeh2OymKaW0">2020 round-up report</a> on abusive treatment of journalists.</p>

<p>Yesterday (3 November 2020), representatives of five Thai human rights organisations went to submit a letter to the police commander on the violation of law and human rights during the legal action taken against pro-democracy protesters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul, Parit Chiwarak, and Panupong Jadnok faced a long night after the court denied a police request to extend their temporary detention in Bangkok Remand Prison. Re-arrest was waiting for them outside amidst allegations of illegal arrest by the police, where violence was involved.</p>

<p>In light of the serious threat posed to prisoners by the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, FIDH and its undersigned member organisations recall governments&#39; obligation to ensure the safety and health of detained individuals that are under their responsibility, and launch a campaign, #ForFreedom, to call for the release of all jailed human rights defenders (HRDs).</p>

<p>On Sunday (25 August), the family of Abdullah Isomuso, who was admitted to hospital after being found unconscious in his cell at Ingkhayutthaborihan Military Camp in Pattani, announced that he had died after 35 days in intensive care.</p>

<p>On 1 and 2 August 2019, bomb attacks took place in at least seven spots including the Government Complex and several public places in Bangkok. On 2 August, two Malay Muslim men were taken into in custody in relation to the bombings, namely Mr. Look-ai Saengae, age 23, and Mr. Wildon Maha, age 29. They were apprehended in Chumphon province while they were on their way back to their hometown in Narathiwat province. Between 2 and 4 August 2019, their relatives and attorneys were not aware of their place of detention and were denied access to them.</p>

<p>Sumaiya Minka had to spend the night in great anxiety after her husband, Abdullah Isomuso, was detained as a suspect by the security forces on 21 July 2019 after he finished the Maghrib prayer (the prayer after the sunset). He was taken for interrogation to Ingkhayutthaborihan Fort, the largest military installation in the southern border provinces of Thailand. She was later informed that her husband was found unconscious in his cell and was admitted to the ICU.&nbsp;</p>
