The Thai police ordered a check into a lèse majesté case against a policewoman accused of defaming the monarchy on Facebook, after pressure from ultra-royalists who launched a campaign to bully the policewoman, Thai media reported.

The leader of an ultra-royalist group has accused a left-leaning red-shirt political activist of defaming the monarchy and of rebellion against the Thai state.    Maj Gen Rientong Nan-nah, the leader of the ultra-royalist Rubbish Collection Organization (RCO), filed a lèse majesté complaint against Surachai D. (aka. Surachai Sae Dan), an anti-establishment red-shirt figure, at the police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) on Tuesday.

The authorities arrested a man for posting lese majeste on Facebook and said he was part of a movement to discredit the Thai monarchy on the Internet. The police from Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) on Wednesday held a press conference on the arrest Jamroen S., a middle age man accused of using the facebook profile titled ‘Uncha Unyo’ to post and share lese majeste contents.

The military court in Chiang Rai held the first hearing of a lèse majesté trial despite an obvious lack of intention on the part of the defendant who allegedly was out of his mind when committing the crime. The military court of the northern province of Chiang Rai on Monday held the first witness hearing in the case against Samak P., a 48 year-old farmer accused of tearing up a picture of the King and the Queen and carrying a weapon (a knife) in public.

Two student activists and a lecturer from Thammasat University testified to police over a lèse majesté accusation against the renowned royalist and lèse majesté law critic Sulak Sivaraksa in relation to Sulak’s speech on an ancient king during the seminar. The student activists, who were the organizers of the seminar, told the police that the seminar was intended for educational purposes only.

A top Air Force officer filed a lèse majesté complaint against a general after being sacked from a position in the Royal Aide-de-Camp Department, saying only the King can order the dismissal. According to Matichon Online, Air Chief Marshal Chansak Nivasabutr on Wednesday filed a lèse majesté complaint at the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) against Gen Sayan Kampeepan, Chief, Aide-de-Camp General to H.M. the King.

The woman accused of lèse majesté for wearing black close to the King’s birthday last year has resigned from her job after being stigmatized by the public. According to ASTV-Manager Online, Witoon Prasertcharoensuk, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Khon Kaen University in Thailand’s Northeast, revealed on Wednesday that Aree K., an employee of Srinagarind Hospital, the teaching hospital of Khon Kaen University, who was accused of lèse majesté, has resigned.

Thai police on Wednesday said the they had arrested a man who allegedly defamed the monarchy on Facebook.   The police accused Pongsak S., of offences under Article 112 or the lese majeste law and Article 14 of the Computer Crime Act (importing of illegal content into a the computer system.)   Pongsak was on the list of 17 people summoned by the junta on 9 June 2014.
