Following the arrest of Elizabeth Tang, General Secretary of International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HCKTU), members, partners and allies of APWLD renew calls for Asia-Pacific governments to end all forms of attacks, release and drop the trumped up charges against all women human rights defenders in the region.

Kicking off the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism and International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, feminists, women workers, and grassroots women from Asia and the Pacific gathered for an online protest to call for safety for women in workplaces and the urgent ratification of ILO C-190.

In a webinar held on 10th November, economic experts, business owners, civil society organisations and parliamentarians  expressed their concerns about the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a mega free trade agreement which is set to be signed on 15 November 2020. Despite concerns being raised, governments have continued to negotiate RCEP in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and global uncertainty.

210 civil society organisations and individuals from across the globe have come in support of the Thai democracy movement and expressed solidarity with the peaceful Thai protesters in their demands for participatory democracy and fundamental human rights in the country. Many of the protests that gathered tens of thousands of people across Thailand have been led by young women leaders and women human rights defenders.
