A 57-year-old man has been arrested under the Computer-Related Crime Act for messages criticizing the political situation following the 2014 coup.

A 26-year-old man was found guilty of royal defamation over comments on a Facebook post by Somsak Jeamteerasakul regarding rumours about the health of King Rama X.

<p>It has become increasingly clear over the past week since the imposition of Martial Law nationwide followed by the coup that one of Thailand’s most draconian and abused laws, the lèse majesté law or Article 112 of the Penal Code, is being used to persecute anyone who voices opposition to the coup.</p>

<p dir="ltr" id="internal-source-marker_0.11728181895498724"><span>Thailand, against the advice of the UN and, many argue, in contravention of its obligations under international law to respect the right to freedom of expression, has a criminal defamation law on its books.</span></p>
