The junta’s legal officers have accused one of the nine people arrested over the alleged plot to assassinate the junta leader of lèse majesté over a Line message. On 24 March 2017, Maj Gen Wicharn Jodtaeng and Col Burin Thongprapai, legal officer of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) took nine people accused of involvement in the alleged plot to assassinate Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister, to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) in Bangkok.

The Thai authorities have arrested nine red shirts after seizing military weapons from nine different locations in central and northeastern Thailand, claiming the weapons were intended to be used to assassinate the junta leader. On 18 March 2017, a combined force of police and military searched a house in Pathum Thani Province belonging to Thirachai Utarawichian, an anti-establishment red shirt linked to Wuthipong Kachathamkun, aka Kotee, a fugitive prominent hard-core red-shirt leader.

  The police have charged Thanat Thanawatcharanon, aka Tom Dundee, a country singer-turned-red-shirt activist, with lèse majesté and offences under the Computer Crime Act.    About 20 military and police officers, led by the Technology Crime Suppression Division, arrested Tom at his house in Phetchaburi Province on Wednesday.    Tom’s wife told Prachatai that he was charged over his speeches at two red-shirt rallies, held by Kotee Red Guard, in November 2013.

Kotee, a prominent hardcore pro-government red-shirt leader, has been the target of lèse majesté charges after he spoke to the foreign media about who is really behind the on-going anti-government protest.
