The woman who was accused of posting lèse majesté material on her Facebook page told police that she did not have control over the page and that the page was a ploy by a disappointed admirer to cause her trouble.   On Saturday, Lt Col Burin Thongprapai, a staff member of the military Judge Advocate General’s Department, accused Jaruwan E. of defaming the King on her Facebook account and submitted three pieces of content posted under the public Facebook page with the name Jaruwan E. (full name and surname in Thai).

The military on Saturday accused a woman of defaming the King on her Facebook account. However, the Facebook account is suspected of being fake and a ploy to damage the woman.   Lt Col Burin Thongprapai, on the staff of the military Judge Advocate General’s Department, on Saturday afternoon filed a case under Article 112 or the lèse majesté law against Jaruwan E., 26, at the Crime Suppression Division.    Burin submitted three pieces of content posted under the public Facebook page with the name Jaruwan E.

Court sentences man posting lese majeste FB comments to five years in jail The Criminal Court on Tuesday morning sentenced Akaradej (last name withheld due to privacy concerns) to five years in jail for his comments on a friend’s Facebook, but since the defendant pleaded guilty, the jail term was halved to two years and six months.

Sgt Prasit Chaisrisa, a former Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt figure, on Monday pleaded guilty to lèse  majesté charges before the criminal court, after he earlier denied all allegations.   Prasit was accused of defaming the King during a speech on an event titled “Stop Overthrowing Democracy,” held at Imperial World Ladprao Department Store on 7 May 2014. A staff member of the military Judge Advocate General’s Office filed a police complaint against him. He has been detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison since his arrest on 29 May.

Note: The fable below was originally published in Thai on Prachatai on 13 October 2014. The author, Pornthip, or Golf, is a detainee currently being held in pre-charge detention in an Article 112 case. She was arrested on 15 August 2014 and her detention has been renewed 6 times; the prosecutor has to decide whether or not to prosecute her by 25 October. Her lawyers have opposed her continued detention and requested bail four times.
