Ministry of Interior has dismissed an appeal to nominate Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal to be Amnesty's Board Member. Amnesty will file a lawsuit, but the student activist fears that when he get the position back, his term will already be over.

Amnesty International is alarmed by the detention and treatment of at least 168 Cambodian and Vietnamese asylum seekers and refugees in Thailand, and urges the Thai authorities to release them immediately pending the assessment of their asylum claims. Amnesty International has raised the issue of the treatment and deportation of asylum seekers and refugees with the Thai government in the past1, but regrettably we have seen the absence of concrete improvements in the protection of people seeking asylum in Thailand.

The Interior Minister’s permission for a Red Bull company to build a reservoir on the site of a community forest has run into protests.    On 8 September 2017, the Facebook page Watchdog Act published Interior Ministry documents on a request from KTD Property Development Limited to use over 12 acres of Huai Mek community forest in Khon Kaen Province.

The latest order by the junta replaces elected local councillors with appointed government officials and gives the junta head the power to directly dismiss ‘corrupt’ councillors. This will allow the junta to take total control of local administrative organizations across the country within four years.     On Thursday, 5 May 2016, the Royal Gazette published NCPO Order No. 22/2016 on the selection of local administration councillor.
