New Economics Party MP and former party leader Mingkwan Saengsuwan announced his resignation in an address to parliament during the mid-year censure debate last Thursday (17 February 2022).

Mingkwan and his press release of April last year, saying that his party had never negotiated to join the government coalition. Mingkwan Sangsuwan has announced that he will remain with the opposition after 5 MPs of his New Economics Party left to work as "independent faction".

Thailand is now stuck in a political stalemate. The democratic camp can win the House, but cannot choose the Prime Minister, while the pro-junta camp can choose the Prime Minister but cannot pass legislation through the House. Only one casualty for the democratic camp, and Thailand will be under a disguised military dictatorship for the next four years.
