Men claiming to be police officers in plainclothes have attempted to block a rally by a civil society group after allegedly finding illicit drugs at the meeting. On 29 March 2017, about 100 members of the People’s Movement for Just Society (P-Move) gathered at a centre of the Banthat Mountains Land Reform Network in Mueang District of the southern province of Trang. The meeting was held as the group planned to travel to Government House in Bangkok on 30 March.

A civil society organisation for marginalised communities in Thailand has urged the government to keep its promise to solve the problems faced by the country’s poor. About 300 members of the People’s Movement for Just Society (P-Move), an organisation which is the voice of poor communities in Thailand, on Thursday morning gathered in front of Government House in Bangkok to submit to the authorities a statement called ‘Poor people’s suffering reaches its peak’.

Thai authorities ordered the eviction of the villagers allegedly encroaching on public land and threatened to detain them if they did not comply, citing law and order as a justification. Meanwhile, the villagers said that the authorities were acting in the interests of an oil palm business.

  Activists and landless villagers on Tuesday rallied to pressure the junta to stop land encroachment and evictions. On Tuesday, despite the fact that martial law is still in place, Four Regions Slum Network (FRSN) and People's Movement for a Just Society (P-Move) organized a rally in front of the UN Building in Bangkok on World Habitat Day and planned to move to Government House to submit a petition to the junta, although the military forbade the rally to move to Government House.
