Surat Thani’s Wiang Sra Provincial Court read the verdict of the Appeals Court Region 8 to acquit suspects in the attempted murder case against Dam On-muang, land rights defender and member of The Southern Peasants' Federation of Thailand (SPFT) and ordered an immediate release of the accused.

On 12 October 2021, Surachai Trongngam, Theeraphan Phankhiri, and Sanya Chongdeeiad, members of a legal team representing Angkhana Neelapaijit and Anchana Heemmina, two women human rights defenders (WHRDs), attended a civil court hearing to settle issues and schedule witness testimony in a case filed against the Office of the Prime Minister and the Royal Thai Army for damages pursuant to the 1996 Act on the Liability for Wrongful Acts of Officials.

Somphon Chimrueng has been found guilty of the attempted murder of a land rights defender in Surat Thani and sentenced to 13 years and 16 months of imprisonment. He has also been ordered to pay compensation to the victim.

The military surrounded a village in southern Thailand and told landless villagers to leave a disputed area while threatening a villager not to take pictures of the event.
According to Protection International (PI), at about 5:30 pm on Tuesday five military men came to Phoemsap Community of Chai Buri District in the southern province of Surat Thani and ordered the landless villagers to leave the area.
The military also reportedly threatened a villager with arrest and interrogation at a military camp if he took pictures of the military

Protection International and the Asian Human Rights Commission are seriously concerned about the Royal Thai Army’s latest intervention in the conflict between the Wang Saphung community in Loei Province with a neighbouring gold and copper mine. On Monday, 25 August, the Wang Saphung community organization, the Khon Rak Ban Kerd Group (KBRK), invited community members to take part in a campaign in the village on the following day. This activity was aimed at restating the KBRK’s community-based support at a time when KBRK members are facing judicial harassment and death threats.
