Reporters Without Borders reiterates its call for the withdrawal of all proceedings against two journalists who are to be tried tomorrow in the southwestern province of Phuket on charges of contravening the Computer Crimes Act and defaming the Royal Thai Navy for quoting from a Reuters special report on the smuggling of Rohingya refugees from neighbouring Burma.

End Inhumane Detention, Family Separation of 1,800 Muslims from Burma
(Bangkok, August 20, 2013) – Thailand’s government should release ethnic Rohingya from Burma who are detained under inhumane and unsafe conditions, and ensure their protection needs are met, Human Rights Watch said today.
On August 13, 2013, the Thai cabinet considered a plan to transfer 1,839 Rohingya who have been held in immigration detention facilities and social welfare shelters across Thailand to refugee camps on the Thai-Burmese border.

(New York, August 23, 2012) – The government of Bangladesh should immediately cease its punitive restrictions on international organizations providing lifesaving humanitarian aid to the more than 200,000 Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh, Human Rights Watch said today. The government should also open its borders to Rohingya fleeing sectarian violence and abuses by Burmese security forces in Arakan State in western Burma.

Children Among Those Facing Forced Return on World Refugee Day
(New York, June 20, 2012) – The government of Bangladesh should stop forcibly returning ethnic Rohingya fleeing sectarian violence back to Burma, Human Rights Watch said today. At least 18 Rohingya asylum seekers, including three young children, are in immediate danger of being forcibly returned to Burma on World Refugee Day, June 20.

The Lawyers Council of Thailand has issued the written statements to the PM and other related departments, stating its concern over an increasing number of Rohingya people smuggled by sea, as a result of insufficient measures and compromised practices on prosecuting human trafficking organizations.
