The Severe State of Emergency in the Deep South has been extended for another month, despite demands from civil society groups for the new government to end the State of Emergency, which has continued in force in the three Deep South provinces for the past 18 years.

A pregnant woman was arrested on Wednesday 24 May for violating the now-repealed Severe State of Emergency by participating in a protest in October 2020. The arrest warrant was issued in March 2022.

The Civil Court has rejected a lawsuit from victims claiming to have been damaged by the severe state of emergency declared during 15 - 22 October 2020 following a massive protest and a clash around the royal motorcade, stating that the declaration was legitimate and reasonable.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) published a legal briefing on 27 October in response to the implementation of the Emergency Decree in response to the pro-democracy protests, calling for all official use of power during the severe state of emergency to be subjected to a review in court and ensure the affected persons’ right to access to an effective remedy
