The Interior Ministry has found that 28% of stateless students were qualified to get Thai citizenship. Those who were eligible could check their eligibility and file petitions to receive citizenship at their local registration office.

Thailand and Myanmar’s regulations systematically deny the rights to movement, health, and culture of the nomadic sea gypsy ethnic Moken people, according to a Human Rights Watch report released this week. The Moken people are one of the last hunter-gatherer groups in Southeast Asia. Approximately 3,000 Moken live in the Mergui Archipelago off the coast of Myanmar, while 800 live in Thailand, mainly in Ranong and surrounding islands.

A group of indigenous people urged the Thai junta to correct Thailand’s database of stateless people which omits about 38,000 names, an error that will affect their rights to health care. The Network of Indigenous People in Thailand (NIPT) on Tuesday submitted a letter to Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, head of the Thai junta and Prime Minister, asking the government to review its database of stateless people who live in Thailand.
