<p>Prachatai speaks to Mimi, a 17-year-old gender equality activist facing charges for violation of the Emergency Decree and the Public Assembly Act,&nbsp;about the beginning of their activism, life after facing charges for political expression, and the importance of gender justice in the pro-democracy movement.</p>

<p>The mother of student activist Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul&nbsp;has received a police summons on a charge under the Emergency Decree, after she joined a protest demanding her daughter&rsquo;s release.</p>

<p>Student activist Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul, who has been detained pending trial on a royal defamation charge, has been granted bail, while Siraphop Phumphuengphut, another student activist, has been denied bail and detained pending trial.</p>

<p>Sureerat Chiwarak, mother of detained student activist Parit &ldquo;Penguin&rdquo; Chiwarak, shaved her head yesterday (30 April) to protest against the court&rsquo;s decision to repeatedly deny bail for her son, whose health is reported to be rapidly declining after being on a hunger strike for the past 46 days.</p>

<p>Scholars At Risk (SAR) called on the Thai authorities for the immediate release of three detained students activists and for all charges against them to be dropped.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The public prosecutor has yet to rule on whether to file a case against 18 people involved in the 19 &ndash; 20 September 2020 protests and has postponed the hearing to 8 March 2021; meanwhile four activists detained last week pending trial were once again denied bail.</p>

<p>A crowd of around 500 gathered at the Pathumwan Skywalk yesterday evening (9 February), after the Criminal Court <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9059">denied bail</a> for activists Parit Chiwarak, Anon Nampa, Somyot Pruksakasemsuk, and Patipan Luecha, who are being detained in prison pending trial and have been taken to the Bangkok Remand Prison.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Student activist Benja Apan and 2 other activists from the student activist group United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration went to the Iconsiam shopping mall on the afternoon of 19 January holding signs saying &ldquo;Monopolizing the vaccine to give the spotlight to the monarchy&rdquo;</p>

<p>The Constitutional Court on Wednesday (16 September) accepted a complaint against three leaders of the 10 August at Thammasat University, accusing them of attempting to overthrow the government.</p>

<p>Student activist Parit &ldquo;Penguin&rdquo; Chiwarak has been granted bail today (15 August) after being arrested the day before while travelling to a demonstration at the Nonthaburi Pier and accused of sedition and holding an illegal public assembly.</p>
