In an official communication to the Thai government made public this week, UN human rights experts expressed serious concern about the alleged enforced disappearance and extrajudicial execution of political dissidents Surachai Saedan, Chatchan Bupphawan, Kraidej Luelert, and Itthipol Sukpan and called for the Thai government to release information concerning their fate.

On 25 February 2019, Pranee Danwattananusorn, wife of disappeared political exile Surachai Saedan, filed a report with Pol Lt Gen Suksawat Bua-in, Deputy Superintendent of Tha Uthen District Police Station, for her missing husband.

Today (2 February 2019), a demonstration was held at Ratchaprasong junction in memory of the three disappeared dissidents: Surachai Saedan, Phuchana, and Kasalong.

The second body found in the Mekhong around New Year has been identified as Kasalong, one of the three disappeared political activists living in exile, says the provincial police commander.

On 21 January 2019, the son of disappeared activist Phuchana (pseudonym), who prefers to remain anonymous, told Prachatai that the DNA result for one of the mutilated bodies found on the banks of the Mekhong River near Nakhon Phanom confirms that the body is genetically related to him.

On 23 Dec 2018, Facebook user Romchalee Sinseubpol, a refugee living in a neighbouring country, published a post saying that Surachai Danwattananusorn (Surachai Saedan), a 75-year-old political activist who fled Thailand after the May 2014 coup, had disappeared from his residence along with 2 other refugees he had been staying with. The last time he made contact through phone calls was on 12 Dec 2018.
