BANGKOK (22 January 2016) – The United Nations Human Rights Office for South-East Asia (OHCHR) urges the Thai military to drop all charges against 11 student activists arrested for violating a ban on political gatherings .
Sirawit Seritiwat, a student activist with the New Democracy Movement, said he was apprehended by uniformed men near Thammasat University campus in the capital Bangkok late on Wednesday.

BANGKOK (24 November 2015) – The United Nations Human Rights Office for South-East Asia (OHCHR) calls for the immediate closure of a Bangkok military detention facility where two inmates died over the past month, and urges the Thai Government to include independent experts to join an investigation into the cases.

UN member states must use the next Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Thailand to demand key human rights commitments from the government, FIDH, its member organization Union for Civil Liberty (UCL), and its partner organization Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw) said today.
FIDH, UCL, and iLaw made the call with the release of two joint submissions for Thailand’s second UPR, which is scheduled to be held in April 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Despite the euphoria surrounding the upcoming national election in November 2015, human rights abuses and violations are still prevalent in Myanmar with no clear sign of improvement.

BANGKOK (14 JULY 2015) - The United Nations Human Rights Office for South-East Asia (OHCHR) is highly concerned with the ongoing trials of two Phuketwan journalists for reporting on smuggling of Rohingya and the alleged involvement of the Royal Thai Navy in Southern Thailand.
From 14 to 16 July, Mr. Alan Morison and Ms. Chutima Sidasathian will be standing trial at the Phuket Provincial Court for publishing an article which quoted an investigative report by Reuters on the smuggling of Rohingya asylum seekers.

We are gravely concerned by the deportation to China yesterday of 109 people understood to be ethnic Uighurs -- including some 20 women -- by the Thai authorities. The 109 individuals, who were part of a larger group of more than 350, had been detained in very poor conditions at various immigration detention facilities across Thailand since March 2014, when they were apprehended after leaving China on their way to Turkey. Despite Turkey’s reported willingness to admit them to its territory, only 172 of the 350 were eventually allowed to go to Turkey in late June.

The United Nations has released a communication to urge the Thai government to investigate the murders and harassment of land rights activists in southern Thailand.
On 2 June, a Working Group of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published a letter sent to the Thai government on 19 February, which expressed grave concerns over the murder, attempted murder, and detention of land rights activists.
