People commemorate the 2006 coup d’état amid tight controlSubmitted by editor2 on Wed, 20/09/2017 - 11:05
About 20 people gathered at the skywalk in front of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre at 6 pm on 19 September 2017 to commemorate the 11th year anniversary of the 2006 coup d’état. The event was organised by Sirawit Serithiwat, a well-known anti-junta activist who faces several changes for his political activities. About 30 security officers put up metal fences in front of the BACC in an attempt to obstruct the gathering. They monitored and recorded the event closely. Before the event started the officer confiscated banners with messages read ‘hatred for dictatorship’, ‘sinister’, etc. The crowd dispersed after they sang ‘Saeng Daw Haeng Sattha’ (the light of faith from the stars).
