Thai Criminal Court on Monday ruled that an anonymous man, shot dead during the military crackdown on anti-establishment red-shirt protesters, was shot dead by an unknown party while the military was moving from Saladaeng intersection toward Ratchaprasong intersection along Ratchadamri road. The cause of his death was a high-velocity bullet penetrating the victim’s skull and severely damaging brain tissues. He was also shot from several directions in the legs, left elbow, right thigh and ankles. 

 

The court said that because he was shot from several directions, experts cannot determine the direction from which he was shot from his location and his posture when shot.  Therefore the court could only rule that he was shot dead as the military was moving toward Ratchaprasong intersection on May 19, 2010 at about 10 am.

 

The anonymous man’s body was found about 17 metres from that of Thawil Kammoon.  The court earlier ruled that Thawil, a red-shirt supporter, was shot dead by the military.

The People’s Centre for Information on the April – May 2010 Crackdowns (PCI) has been searching for his relatives. He was buried at a cemetery for those with no relatives in eastern Chonburi province.

 

Four more people, including a police officer and Italian photojournalist Fabio Polenghi, were killed on the morning of May 19.

 

 

 

Phayao Akhart, mother of Kamonked Akhard, a nurse killed during the military crackdown on the red shirts, submitted a letter to Nantasak Poonsuk, Director-General of the Special Litigation Department of the Office of the Attorney General, to speed up the murder cases in which People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader Suthep Thaugsuban and former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva are defendants. 

 

The court in August 2013 ruled that Kamonked Akhard, a paramedic, was shot dead along with five others by the military inside Pathum Wanaram Temple. 

 

Suthep in his capacity as the Director of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) and Abhisit as PM face murder charges accordingly. 

 

The Department of Special Investigation has forwarded the case to the Office of the Attorney General’s Special Litigation Department. 

 

Nanatasak said on Friday that Suthep’s lawyer submitted a letter to the Attorney General, asking for another postponement. The next appointment is scheduled for March 13. According to Khao Sod, this is the fourth postponement.

 

 

 

Four people, including a monk and a police officer, were killed and seven others were injured by gunmen on Thursday morning in restive Pattani province’s Mae Lan district at a spot where villagers regularly offered food for monks.

 

Four assailants on two motorcycles strafed a group of people who were offering food to monks. A monk and a woman died immediately at the scene while another two, including a 10-year-old boy, died later in hospital. 

 

The seven injured include a 10-year-old girl.
