Five lecturers from the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Ubon Ratchathani University reported to the military on Tuesday after receiving “invitations” from the provincial army command in Ubon Ratchathani Province for “talks” on Monday evening.

The five academics; Teerapol Anmai, Sanoh Charoenphon, Ram Prasarnsak, Saowanee Alexander and Kanokwan Manorom, went to the 22nd Army Military Circle Ubon Ratchathani around 11 a.m.

The military released them after meeting for one hour. The academics were asked “for cooperation” in not participating in any political activities, and were also asked to monitor students’ political activities on the campus.

Teerapol, Sanoh and Saowanee set up a fund to help political prisoners after the 2010 red shirt crackdown.

Ubon Ratchathani is one of the strongholds of supporters of the deposed government in the northeast of Thailand.
