The Royal Gazette on 6 October announced the names of the 250 members of the National Reform Council (NRC) in accordance with Section 28 of the 2014 Interim Constitution.

According to information available on the internet, it is known that 52 per cent of the 250 seats in the NRC are taken by civil servants or those with a civil service background, such as permanent secretaries of public institutions, university lecturers, administrators and presidents, and military and police.

Academics from universities and independent academics accounted for 19 per cent of the NRC seats, while capitalists, businessmen, and representatives and members of provincial chambers of commerce get 16 per cent. Key leaders of the anti-election People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and its supporters get 13 per cent.

National and local politicians, including members of the two prominent parties, Pheu Thai and the Democrats, get 13 per cent. Approximately 7 per cent of the NRC seats are given to former members of the 2007 Constitutional Drafting Committee and the 2007 National Legislative Assembly. Another 5 per cent NRC members are from NGOs with only one member from a labour union, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

The NRC also includes former members of the now-defunct Reform Committee formed by the Abhisit Vejjajiva government after the 2010 crackdown on red-shirt protesters.
