As a part of the Global Divestment Day, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Southeast Asia is hosting a film screening and discussion on divestment in Thailand and is inviting everyone to come along, get informed and get involved on 13 February 2015.

The Global Divestment Day is a world-wide day of action of the Fossil Free movement to reclaim the power of the people to decide on their future and demand everyone with shares in the fossil fuel industry to pull their investments out, to divest. If it is morally wrong to wrack the planet, it is also morally wrong to earn money with it.

The global movement which is pioneered by 350.org, an active international NGO which deals with climate change, suggests: Attack the fossil fuel industry where it hurts them most. Take their money.

“Countries in SEA are already hit by climate change and are going to suffer more than most countries in the world in the future from sea level rise, typhoons, droughts, floods,... So taking up divestment can be a brave move for a country to step up and take a leading role in shaping the region's future. In some countries it might be difficult as environmental concerns are not top-agenda, as for example Thailand is dealing with how its government should actually look like at all. But the good thing here is that divestment is not left or right, it also does not especially appeal to one religion,  it is pro-life,” said Julia Behrens, the project manager of Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Southeast Asia.

The event will be held at Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Office in Bangkok on the evening of 13 February 2015.
