The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT) hosted a discussion entitled ‘The Future of Politics in Thailand’ on the evening of 12 March 2015. The discussion panel comprised four prominent Thai politicians from the two biggest political parties, Pheu Thai and the Democrat Party: Alongkorn Polabutr, a current senior member of the National Reform Council (NRC) and former deputy leader of the Democrat Party; Kasit Piromya, former Foreign Minister from the Democrat Party, Chaturon Chaisang, former Education Minister from Pheu Thai, and Phongthep Thepkanjana, former Deputy Prime Minister of Pheu Thai. The panellists gave their views on Thailand’s national reform under the junta, its future challenges, and the much debated new constitution which will reshape the country’s political system. The discussion was moderated by Jonathan Head, the BBC’s Thailand correspondent. Prior to the discussion, the military warned that the event would be allowed only if there was no criticism of the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
