People wearing glasses, caps might be bomb suspects: Thai army’s commander

Watch out and stay away from those who wear glasses, caps or carry backpacks as they might be bombers, said Thai’s army supreme commander.

On Wednesday, 17 August 2016, Gen Theerachai Nakwanit, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, told the media about investigations into the Mother’s Day bombings that occurred on the eve of Mother's Day on 12 August. He confirmed that the army was in control of the situation and encouraged people to continue their daily life as normal, reported Manager Online.

The general also urged people to help the military prevent bombings by keeping an eye on those who wear sunglasses or hats indoors, reasoning that they might be bombers since ordinary Thais would not dress in such costumes.

“People have to live normal life and keep an eye on abnormal things within our community. … Thais don’t normally wear caps or glasses in shopping malls. It’s just weird. Carrying backpacks is also abnormal. So we need to help look out [for unusual things],” Gen Theerachai said.

The Mother’s Day bombings were a series of arson and bomb attacks in five provinces of Southern Thailand that occurred between last Thursday night and Friday early morning, which was Thailand's Mother's Day and the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. The attacks left four dead and dozens, many of whom are foreign tourists, injured.
