<p>A coalition of nearly 30 labor, environmental and human rights organizations&nbsp;<a href="http://www.laborrights.org/publications/letter-eu-commission-regarding-yellow-card-designation-thailand">sent a letter to the European Commission</a>&nbsp;on Feb. 17 asking it to extend for at least another six months. The letter asks the Committee to take human rights into account when assessing Thailand’s seafood sector.</p>

<p>It is reported that the policy steering committee of the National Council for Peace and Order has sent a proposal on fisheries for the approval of the Cabinet (which contains a number of NCPO members).&nbsp; The idea is to pay 228.4 million baht in compensation to 4,800 fishing boats that have been operating without a licence or with illegal fishing gear.</p>

<p>The European Commission has today put Thailand on formal notice for not taking sufficient measures in the international fight against illegal fishing (IUU).</p> <p>As a result of a thorough analysis and a series of discussions with Thai authorities since 2011, the Commission has denounced the country's shortcomings in its fisheries monitoring, control and sanctioning systems and concludes that Thailand is not doing enough.</p>

<p>The European Union is to impose sanctions on fishery products from Thailand if the Thai junta does not make efforts to eradicate illegal fishing. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>According to the<a href="https://www.facebook.com/BBCThai/photos/np.1429577367583410.100005193978650/1646765948877772/?type=1&amp;notif_t=notify_me">&nbsp;BBC Thai Service</a>, the European Union (EU) plans to announce that it will give the Thai government six months to come up with concrete policies to tackle illegal fishing and overfishing in the region.</p>

<p>The fishery authority in the southern province of Songkhla concealed the existence of illegal fishing from European Union officials out of fear of that fishery exports would be cut. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<div>The European Union Spokesman on Thursday criticized the junta's replacement of martial law with Section 44 of the interim charter.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>"The EU has repeatedly called for martial law to be lifted and the democratic process to be restored in Thailand. The replacement of martial law by Order Number 3/2015 does not bring Thailand closer to democratic and accountable government.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Military courts should not be used to try civilians. </div>
