The Thai Foreign Minister has been shamed by the US Ambassador publicly confirming that a statement expressing Washington’s “concerns” on Thailand’s human rights situation is real after the Minister recently claimed that the statement was not issued by the US Department of State.    On Tuesday, 10 May 2016, AFP reported that a spokesperson of the US Department of the State “condemned” Thailand for the arrest on 6 May of an activist's mother.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) lectured the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Thailand on the country’s political history to justify the detention of a Pheu Thai Party politician. Don Pramudwinai, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, told media that the MFA on Tuesday afternoon, 19 April 2016, met Jesús Miguel Sanz, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Thailand, to discuss about the current political situation of Thailand, Thairath News reported.

Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry is attempting to convince other countries that those breaching the Thai lèse majesté law have committed a criminal offence not a political one.    Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told the media on Wednesday that the Ministry is now trying to communicate with other countries where suspects under Article 112 of the Criminal Code, the lèse majesté law, are residing, in order to extradite them back to Thailand.
