On Aug 5, the Criminal Court held its final hearing in the case of Daranee Charnchoengsilapakul.  Suwit Lertkraimethi, a postgraduate student at Thammasat’s Political Sicence Faculty and an anti-coup activist testified as a defence witness, followed by Daranee herself.

The court at first set Aug 30 as the date to give its ruling, but the defendant asked the court to bring it forward to Aug 28, as on that day Daranee was already scheduled to go to court for a hearing in another case in which she was sued for defamation by Gen Saprang Kanlayanamitr, one of the coup leaders, and the procedure of bringing the defendant to court, which requires a thorough body check, was inconvenient for the defendant.

The court then scheduled Aug 28 to give its ruling as requested by the defendant.
