Evidence and witness testimonies in the case of taxi driver Phan Khamkong, who the court has ruled was killed by security officers in May 2010, are prima facie sufficient for taking legal action against those responsible, said Tharit Pengdit, Director General of the Department of Special Investigation on 2 Nov.

He said that the DSI would hold a meeting of its investigation team to discuss this issue on 6 Dec.

If any legal action is to be initiated in the case of Phan Khamkong, it will affect those who were injured in the same area where Phan was killed and who have filed complaints for attempted murder and bodily harm, enabling them immediately to initiate an investigation, Matichon Online reports.

Tharit also admitted that Pol Col Prawet Moonpramuk, DSI Deputy Director General, had been appointed inspector general of the Justice Ministry, resulting in his immediate withdrawal from his responsibility heading the DSI team investigating the deaths of security officers and civilians resulting from the 2010 crackdown.

However, he believes that the appointment will not affect the cases being handled by the DSI, as the DSI operates through teamwork with investigations involving public prosecutors, police and DSI personnel.
