<p>A provincial court in southern Thailand has dismissed charges of human trafficking filed by Cambodian workers against a Thai fishing boat captain and a fish market owner. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p> <p>On 22 February 2017, the Provincial Court of Ranong read the verdict&nbsp;in a case filed by Ranong public prosecutors against Banjob Kaenkaew, a fishing boat captain, and Somchai Jettanapornsamran, owner of a fish market based in Samut Sakhon.</p>

<p>On 29 December 2016,&nbsp;Mr. Sai Kein, a migrant worker&nbsp;from Myanmar, has authorized a representative to bring the case to the Labour Court of Samut Sakhon against the Social Security Office in Nakhon Pathom&nbsp;as defendant no.&nbsp;1&nbsp;and the Workmen’s Compensation Fund Committee, defendant no.&nbsp;2. It has stemmed from that the WCF Committee&nbsp;had issued a decision no. NT&nbsp;0030.1/33948&nbsp;dated&nbsp;18&nbsp;November 2016 on ‘the result of the appeal regarding the directive on compensation’ which denied Mr.</p>

<p>MR. Charlie Tiyu, a migrant worker from Myanmar who was illegally chained to his bed whilst receiving treatment for a work-related injury last week, is being supported by Thai rights groups today (7TH FEB 2011) to demand compensation from the Social Security Office's (SSO) Workmen's Compensation Fund (WCF). After a campaign by the Human Rights and Development Foundation (HRDF), the Immigration Bureau ordered Charlie unchained on 4th Feb 2011 but he remains under custody in the Police General Hospital in Bangkok.</p>

<p>Mr. Chalermchai Sri-on, the Minister of Labour, on 26 Jan commented on the results of his trip to Myanmar between 22nd to 24th January 2010 to meet Mr Mong Min, the Deputy Minister ofForeign Affairs for Myanmar. The Minister said the trip was intended to discuss the existing nationality verification process (NV) for alien workers that has been proceeding slowly,particularly as a result of border closures.</p>
<p>On International Migrant&rsquo;s Day (18th December 2010), the State Enterprises Workers&rsquo; Relations Confederation (SERC), the Human Rights and Development Foundation (HRDF) and the Thai Labour Solidarity Committee (TLSC) requests the Royal Thai Government (RTG) to re-open registration for all migrants in Thailand, review its deportation policy, cooperate with the United Nations in examination of violation of migrant rights, repeal discriminatory policies affecting migrants including wage deductions for a deportation fund and formulate long term migration policies in response to actual</p>

<p>Almost a million registered migrant workers from Burma, Cambodia and Laos now have a right to formally purchase and register motor vehicles in Thailand. However, because of officials&rsquo; discriminatory use and interpretation of laws and a lack of genuine respect for human rights, these migrants continue to be denied the right on national security grounds to drive these vehicles.</p>

<p>Since December 2008, the Royal Thai Government (RTG) has increasingly stressed its policy that migrant workers from Burma currently in Thailand must enter a nationality verification process (NV). NV is apparently required to change migrant&rsquo;s status from persons who illegally entered Thailand to persons who are legally resident here, as well as to allow migrants to legally work and receive legal protection equal to Thai persons.</p>
