Two Vacancies at Mekong Energy and Ecology Network (MEE Net)

Position: 1. Regional Coordinator

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring power sector planning, structure and governance, the regional power trade and regional energy policy in the Mekong countries. The focus of this work will be on transboundary impacts from power sector developments, capital flows and regional governance/legal issues and mechanisms. 
  • Conducting research on a topic of interest and experience but with a focus on a particular aspect of the electricity sector (e.g. renewable energy, energy efficiency, governance, economic issues) or regional energy policy (for example the GMS and ASEAN Power Grids, gas and nuclear developments).
  • Developing communication and information sharing, especially with partner organizations and individuals.
  • Working with the other members of MEE Net's coordinating team to implement a range of varied activities including research programmes and events organized in collaboration with MEE Net's partners and energy-related organizations/networks in the 6 Mekong countries.
  • Logistical support for capacity building programmes and events. 

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field relating to energy,
  • development studies, or the environment, or relevant work experience in a similar field.
  • Fluency in English is required both speaking and writing.
  • The ability to communicate in at least one other language of the
  • Mekong region (Thai, Laos, Burmese, Viet, Khmer etc.)
  • Preferably at least two years' experience in a field related to energy.
  • The person should be highly self-motivated and have a proven ability to work as part of a team and have good communication skills.
  • A concern for and understanding of social and environmental issues is also a prerequisite for this position.
  • The ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • The position also involves regular travel in Thailand and other Mekong countries.

Position: 2. Programme Coordinator (native English language proficiency required)

Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit and proofread communication material in English on issues relating to the electricity sector (e.g. renewable energy, energy efficiency, governance, economic issues) or regional energy policy (e.g. the GMS and ASEAN Power Grids, gas and nuclear developments).
  • Develop communication and information sharing, especially with partner organizations and individuals.
  • Monitor power sector planning, structure and governance, the regional power trade and regional energy policy in the Mekong countries in international online media. The focus of this work will be on transboundary impacts from power sector developments, capital flows and regional governance/legal issues and mechanisms.
  • Conducting research on a topic of interest and experience but with a focus on a particular aspect relating to the energy sector.
  • Working with the other members of MEE Net's coordinating team to implement a range of varied activities including research programmes, campaigns and events.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • Excellent English-language writing skills with a good command of grammar and the language.
  • Knowledge of the internet culture and close familiarity with the tools and landscape of the digital world.
  • Interest in energy and the environment. Preferably at least two years' experience in energy-related issues.
  • A concern for and understanding of social and environmental issues is also a prerequisite for this position.
  • The person should be highly self-motivated and have a proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • The position also involves regular travel in Thailand and other Mekong countries.
